Equine Cushings Case Study

Not all Cushings cases are your typical hair pony with a curly coat!

Sometimes the early signs can be a lot more subtle.

Our vet Aimi’s horse was picked up as having Cushing’s because she had lost a bit of topline and then had an ulcer on her eye that was taking longer to heal than normal.

       

Can all horses and ponies be affected by Cushings?
Cushings can affect around 20% of horses over the age of 15 years with signs ranging from

• Coat changes including delayed shedding or change in the nature of the coat
• Abnormal sweating
• Laminitis
• Loss of muscle
• Recurrent infections
• Abnormal fat deposits
• Increased drinking and urination
• Lethargy
• Reduced fertility

Affected horses or ponies may show one or a combination  of these signs. Early detection means early treatment which can help keep your horse feeling younger for longer.
