Equine shockwave therapy

For many years we have employed extra corporeal shockwave therapy to assist in the treatment of a wide range of conditions ranging from tendon and ligament problems to back and muscular pain.
What is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive therapy that uses pulses of energy to trigger an increased metabolism, boosting collagen production and releasing signalling chemicals to fight inflammation and accelerate tissue regeneration. It is a safe alternative to surgery and replaces outdated firing and blistering.

Up to three treatments are usually required for spavin or suspensory / tendon damage.

Where is Shockwave Therapy performed?

We usually perform it in the stocks at the practice but have a mobile unit if necessary.

Back treatments usually require no sedation if the horse is not noise sensitive, but treatments over a bony prominence are more tender and these patients usually need sedation.

How long does Shockwave Therapy Take?

It takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes so can be done while you wait.

How many sessions is my horse likely to need?

We recommend up to three treatments for spavin or suspensory/tendon damage, but each horse and each case is different.

Our team will discuss a personalised plan with you or your horse.

How soon will I see and will my horse feel results?

We have had excellent results with this achieving faster healing and instantaneous pain relief for some conditions. The results are astounding.
