Pet & equine insurance claims

If your horse or pet is insured there are 3 options on how to claim.
OPTION 1

You pay our invoice for treatment in full to us and you contact your insurance company directly to make your own claim.

For options 2 and 3 below – as soon as you decide you wish to raise a claim, please let us and your insurance company know.

OPTION 2 – Indirect Claim

You pay the invoice for treatment in full to us, plus our insurance processing fee and the insurer pays you directly once the claim is finalised.

What you need to do:

– you pay us the full amount of your invoice at the time of treatment
– this includes our fee of £12 charge for our administration time
– provide us with your insurance policy details; depending on your insurer, you may need to instigate the claim with them in the first instance – then we will complete all the necessary information

What we do:

– complete the claim and submit to your insurer
– send any clinical notes and other information requested by your insurer
– if necessary make insurance continuation claims for any ongoing treatment

OPTION 3 – Direct Claim

You pay your excess and our insurance processing fee to us; then the insurer pays us directly once the claim is finalised.

What you need to do:

– provide us with your insurance policy details; depending on your insurer you may need to instigate the claim in the first instance then we will complete all the necessary information
– pay us your excess plus our fee of £25 for our administration time

What we will do:

– follow up the claim if necessary
– ensure we receive the full payment / advise you of any amounts you need to pay
– if necessary make insurance continuation claims for any ongoing treatment

In summary with a direct claim we manage the whole claim process for you.

Why do I  have to pay an Excess?

All insurance policies come with an excess and will need to be paid whenever a claim is made.  You are liable for the excess payment on all occasions a claim is made.

Excess is paid for each condition for each policy year.

Some policies charge a percentage excess (co-payment) in addition to a fixed excess – do check your policy so you know what it is you are liable for.

Why do I have to pay a direct or indirect claim fee to you?

Administering insurance costs time and therefore money and we have to charge a nominal fee towards this time spent by our Insurance Manager in managing your claims on your behalf.

What fee will I be charged for a continuation of an ongoing condition?

We will not charge for any continuation claims. However, if the condition runs into a new policy year, we will charge you our annual administration fee of either £12 or £25 – depending on whether it is an indirect or direct claim.
