Solensia
Solensia (Frunevetmab) is a monthly injection used in the management of feline osteoarthritis (OA).
How does Solenisa work?
It is a monoclonal antibody that blocks nerve growth factor (NGF), ultimately preventing pain associated with osteoarthritis. It is administered by one of our vets or nurses as an injection under the skin (just like your cat’s vaccines).
Is Solensia right for my cat?
Our vets discuss each cat on an individual basis. There are several different treatment options for feline OA, and we consider each cat’s age, lifestyle, other health conditions and willingness to take medicines in feed or attend the clinic, before deciding on a treatment plan.
How soon will I see a difference?
When starting treatment, results would be expected within the first 2 injections. Solensia can take effect in as little as 6 days from injection, with results lasting for up to a month.
How would I know if my cat has arthritis?
Feline osteoarthritis may be picked up at your cat’s annual check, or another vet appointment, particularly as they age. If you notice any of the following signs, book an appointment with one of our team to discuss them further :
-
- Struggles getting up in the morning or after sleeping
- Appears stiff when moving / doesn’t jump anymore
- Sleeps in different positions (doesn’t curl up anymore)
- Licks at joints more than before
- Is less sociable or less tolerant than they used to be
- Grooms themselves less (has a matted coat)
- Struggles using the litter tray
At the appointment our team will have a chat with you about what you have noticed and perform a clinical examination – looking particularly at joints and movement; they may also need to take some x-rays as part of the assessment.
