Xrays
Imaging with x-rays is a key part of investigating lameness, trauma, problems in the chest and abdomen and with digital DR x-ray we can get beautiful images (well we think they are!) almost instantaneously.
If we identify a fracture for example, we can plan treatment and also send the image to a specialist for review.
X-rays give excellent details about bones and areas of the body with a lot of ‘contrast’ like the chest where the air in the lungs highlights other structures like the heart.
We often follow x-ray with ultrasound, with the x-rays giving a great overview and ultrasound giving more detail about ‘soft’ structures like body organs.
As our patients need to be very still we usually need sedation or anaesthesia to take x-rays.

On site laboratory
We have a very well equipped little laboratory on site where we are able to process and run blood samples, gaining results within half an hour from sampling. This is really helpful for unwell pets and for health screening prior to anaesthesia for example.
Laboratory services
Samples that are sent to our external laboratory are also processed prior to dispatch via our daily courier service. We are also able to perform some analysis on other fluids such as urine and joint fluid on site.
Our microscope is invaluable for examining samples from sore ears, itchy skin and lumps and bumps. This allows us to plan treatment and select the right medications – which is really important to avoid unnecessary use of antibiotics for example.
